How does it work?

Will I lose quality?

JPG and WebP are compressed with some loss; at 70–85% the difference is rarely visible. If the result would be larger than the original, the file is left unchanged.

Why does my PNG hardly shrink?

PNG is lossless and doesn't shrink with a quality setting. For photos, choosing WebP or JPG as the output format gives a much smaller file.

What does the maximum width do?

It scales the image down to that width (for example 1600 pixels). For 4000-pixel phone photos it lowers the file size more than anything else.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression happens entirely in your browser; the files never leave your device.
