How does it work?
Choose a direction. To convert a timestamp, enter the number; values above 100 billion are read as milliseconds, anything else as seconds (or pick the unit yourself). To convert a date, enter a UTC date and time. All results are in UTC.

What is a Unix timestamp?
The number of seconds since 1 January 1970 00:00:00 UTC (the Unix epoch). It has no time zone, which is why systems use it to pass moments in time around.
How can I tell seconds from milliseconds?
Current timestamps have 10 digits in seconds (about 1.7 billion) and 13 in milliseconds (about 1.7 trillion). Auto-detect looks at that difference.
